St. Maarten (Say: sint MAR tin) is an island for today’s
vacationers on the go. It is well known for its shopping,
water sports, golf and casinos. St.Maarten is well
known for being the smallest island in the world that
is divided between two sovereign nations: Half is French
and the other Dutch. Wedding ceremonies are legally
conducted on the Dutch side only as the French side
requires a 1 month stay before legal ceremonies can
be done.

The island has airports on both the French and Dutch
side but all international flights even those from
France arrive on the Dutch side.
As a port St.Martin is surpassed in numbers only by
some islands. This is due to its high level of development,
excellent shopping and fantastic, easily accessible
beaches. The 2 major ports offer excellent shopping
and is only walking distance. |
